Buildertrend alternatives for small contractors

Buildertrend is a residential builder and remodeler platform, and it is now the landing spot for CoConstruct users. If you want published pricing or a lighter tool, JobTread, Contractor Foreman, Projul, and Houzz Pro are the closest matches.

The closest Buildertrend alternatives for a small residential contractor are JobTread (one all-features plan with per-user pricing), Contractor Foreman (lowest entry price), Projul (sales and scheduling for remodelers), and Houzz Pro (design, selections, and lead generation in one). Commercial subs are usually better served by Knowify or Fieldwire. Every price on this page comes from the vendor's own pricing page as checked in October 2026; where a vendor did not show a price, that is stated.

Who Buildertrend fits

Buildertrend is best known as a residential platform for home builders and remodelers. The typical buyer runs several jobs at once, manages homeowners as closely as subs, and wants schedules, change orders, and payments in one system. Because its own site could not be loaded for this review, confirm specific features in a demo. It has also become the destination for CoConstruct customers: CoConstruct's own site describes a transition that is entering its final phase and tells users the next chapter starts with Buildertrend.

If you came over from CoConstruct and the workflow feels right, staying put may be the cheapest choice once you count retraining. If not, now is a natural time to compare.

Why contractors look for Buildertrend alternatives

  • Pricing you cannot see up front. Buildertrend's pricing page returned an access error when checked in October 2026, so this page could not confirm any current plan price. Ask for a written quote that names the plan, term, and renewal rate.
  • CoConstruct migration. Teams forced to move anyway often compare the whole market instead of taking the default path.
  • Commercial work. A sub that bills a GC on AIA G702 pay apps with retainage needs different billing tools than a remodeler billing a homeowner on a draw schedule.
  • Team size. A two-person deck builder may want a cheap tier with only scheduling and invoicing, not a full builder suite.
  • Accounting fit. Some firms want job costing that ties closely to QuickBooks Online or Desktop.

7 Buildertrend alternatives and who each fits

1. JobTread

The most direct match for builders and remodelers. JobTread lists estimating, takeoff, bid requests, scheduling, daily logs, budgeting, change orders, job costing, purchase orders, AIA payment applications, customer portals, selections and allowances, and warranty management. Pricing is one plan: $199 a month with one internal user, plus $20 per user for users 2 to 10 on monthly billing ($16 on annual). Customer and vendor portal users are free and unlimited, with no contract and no setup fees.

2. Contractor Foreman

Best for owners who want the widest feature list for the fewest dollars. Basic is $49 a month billed annually for one user. Standard is $105 annually or $139 monthly for up to 3 users, Plus is $166 or $199 for up to 8, Pro is $221 or $279 for up to 15, and Unlimited is $332 or $399. Core tools like scheduling, invoicing, change orders, daily logs, time cards, and a client portal are listed on all plans. Pro and Unlimited include free setup.

3. Projul

Best for remodelers and roofers who care most about the sales pipeline and the schedule. Starter is $199 a month billed annually ($249 monthly) for up to 3 users. Watch the tier map: change orders start at Core, while job costing, progress billing, the client portal, and QuickBooks Online start at Core+ ($599 annually, $799 monthly, up to 20 users). Daily logs and selections are in Pro.

4. Houzz Pro

Best for design-build remodelers and interior-heavy firms that also want marketing. Houzz Pro lists 3D floor plans, takeoffs, selections, mood boards, CRM, scheduling, daily logs, estimates, job costing, change orders, invoices, QuickBooks integration, and lead generation and advertising tools. The pricing page did not load when checked, so get a quote. See Houzz Pro alternatives for more.

5. Knowify

Best for commercial subs and service-plus-project trades. AIA billing is on every plan. Core lists $99 or $149 a month by billing term with one user, Advanced lists $329 or $399 with 10 users, and extra users are $29 each. Job costing and WIP need Advanced or higher.

6. Fieldwire

Best for field teams on plan-heavy jobs. Free for up to 5 users and 3 projects; paid plans are $39, $64, and $89 per user per month billed annually. It is a field tool, not a homeowner portal or billing system.

7. Procore

Best for builders who have grown into commercial or large multifamily work. Unlimited users, annual fee by product and construction volume, no public price list. The full matchup is in Procore vs Buildertrend.

Run the numbers before you switch

Say you run a remodeling company with an owner, a production manager, a salesperson, and an office manager, plus 20 subs and 12 active homeowners. On JobTread monthly billing that is $199 plus three users at $20, or $259 a month, with subs and homeowners free. On Contractor Foreman Plus (up to 8 users) it is $166 a month billed annually. On Projul, getting job costing and a client portal means Core+ at $599 a month billed annually. Same company, very different bills, because each vendor draws the line between tiers in a different place.

Where Smart Business Automator fits

Smart Business Automator is a newer, per-user option (Starter $19, Professional $40, Business $67, Enterprise $100 per user per month) covering project tracking, invoicing, subcontractor and shipment tracking, change orders, job costing and WIP views, compliance and certified payroll preparation, and AI help with daily log summaries and document data extraction. It connects to the accounting and field tools you already use. It is not built around homeowner selections, so it fits teams that care more about job cost and paperwork than client design tools. See our pricing or job costing and WIP automation.
