Alternatives

Raken alternatives for small contractors

Raken is a field reporting app with custom quotes. If you want a published price, a free tier, or daily logs inside a broader project tool, start with these options.

Good Raken alternatives for a small contractor depend on what you use Raken for. If it is mostly daily logs and photos, Trimble ProjectSight Go and Fieldwire have published per-user prices and free tiers. If you want daily reports plus estimating and job costing, JobTread or Contractor Foreman cover more ground in one tool. If the gap is photo documentation, CompanyCam is the narrow, focused pick. Raken does not publish prices, so all figures below are competitors' own published rates, checked October 2026.

Who Raken fits

Raken is field management software with a web portal and mobile app. It sells to subcontractors, general contractors, and heavy civil firms, and names trades from electrical and concrete to excavating, roofing, and steel. Its core is daily progress reporting: crews add notes, photos, and video from a phone, and Raken builds a shareable PDF daily report. Around that it lists time tracking with a time clock and kiosk mode, production tracking for materials and equipment, safety and quality tools such as checklists, observations, incidents, and toolbox talks, plus RFIs, submittals, and integrations with accounting and payroll systems.

That focus is the strength. A foreman can finish a daily report in the truck before leaving the job, and the office gets a clean, consistent record. Raken also offers a free trial with unlimited projects and users before you pay.

Why contractors look for Raken alternatives

  • Quote-only pricing. Raken's plans page says it offers custom pricing and asks you to contact sales. That makes it hard to compare against tools with a price list.
  • Another app in the stack. If the office already runs estimates, schedules, and invoices elsewhere, a separate field app means double entry for hours and quantities unless the integration is solid.
  • Light needs. A small sub doing three jobs at a time may only need a daily log template and a photo app.
  • Wanting the whole job in one place. Some owners want the daily report tied to the budget, the change order, and the pay app.

7 Raken alternatives and who each fits

1. Trimble ProjectSight

Best for small GCs and subs who want daily reports alongside RFIs and submittals at a low per-user price. Trimble lists a Free plan for up to 3 projects with unlimited users and 2 GB of storage, and a Go plan at $29 per user per month billed annually with unlimited projects, 15 GB, and daily reports. Enterprise is custom priced.

2. Fieldwire

Best for field-first teams that live on drawings and task lists. The free Basic plan covers 5 users, 3 projects, and 100 sheets. Pro is $39 per user per month, Business is $64, and Business Plus is $89, all on annual billing. Reports and exports start at Pro, custom forms at Business, and RFIs, submittals, change orders, and budget at Business Plus.

3. CompanyCam

Best when photo proof is the main job. Core is $63 a month billed annually for one user, Crew is $129 with 3 users, and Scale is $199 with 3 users, plus $29 per extra user. It covers timestamped photos and video, photo-based reports, and offline sync, with checklists starting on Crew. It is not a time card or production tracking tool.

4. Contractor Foreman

Best for small GCs and trades who want daily logs, time cards, and the office side together. Its pricing page could not be loaded when checked in October 2026, so confirm current plans, user limits, and which features each tier includes directly with Contractor Foreman.

5. JobTread

Best for residential and light commercial contractors who want field notes feeding job costing. JobTread lists $199 a month including one internal user, plus $20 per internal user from 2 to 10. Field crew who only log daily notes, upload photos, or view schedules can be free users, which matters if you have more boots than desks.

6. Procore

Best for growing GCs who want field reporting inside a full project platform. Procore does not publish prices. It prices most products by annual construction volume, with unlimited users included, while its Field Productivity product is priced per full-time equivalent. See Raken vs Procore for the head-to-head.

7. Buildertrend

Best for home builders and remodelers who want daily logs next to selections, schedules, and a client portal. We could not load Buildertrend's pricing page when we checked in October 2026, so confirm current plans and any onboarding fee directly with the vendor.

How to choose a Raken replacement

Start with who writes the report. Say a concrete sub has 4 foremen and an office of 2. On ProjectSight Go that is 6 users at $29, or $174 a month billed annually. On Fieldwire Pro it is 6 at $39, or $234. On JobTread, if the foremen only log notes and photos, they may count as free field users and you pay for the 2 office seats. Get Raken's quote for the same 6 people before deciding, since its pricing is custom.

  1. List what goes in your daily report today: manpower, hours, weather, quantities, delays, visitors, photos.
  2. Check that the new app captures each item without a workaround.
  3. Test it with your least tech-friendly foreman for a full week, not a demo.
  4. Confirm how hours reach payroll and how quantities reach the job cost report.

Where Smart Business Automator fits

Smart Business Automator is a newer option priced per user per month: Starter $19, Professional $40, Business $67, and Enterprise $100. It is an office-side platform, covering project tracking, invoicing, subcontractor and shipment tracking, change orders, job costing and WIP views, and compliance and certified payroll preparation, with AI help that summarizes daily logs and drafts RFIs. It connects to field tools contractors already use, so a team that likes its field app can keep it and tie the reports to the rest of the job through construction workflow automation.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Raken cost?

Raken does not publish prices. When checked in October 2026, its plans page said it offers custom pricing and asked buyers to contact sales. It does offer a free trial with unlimited projects and users.

Is there a free alternative to Raken?

Trimble ProjectSight has a free plan for up to 3 projects with unlimited users, and Fieldwire has a free Basic plan for 5 users, 3 projects, and 100 sheets. Both charge per user for paid tiers.

What is the best Raken alternative for subcontractors?

Subs who mainly need daily reports and photos often do well with ProjectSight or Fieldwire. Subs who also want estimating, time cards, and invoicing in one tool should look at JobTread or Contractor Foreman, and confirm Contractor Foreman's current plans directly with the vendor.

Can I keep Raken and still change other software?

Yes. Raken lists integrations with accounting, payroll, and project management tools. Many contractors keep their field app and change only the office system.
