Housecall Pro alternatives for small contractors

Housecall Pro publishes its prices and covers most of what a small residential service shop needs. Shops switch when they need deeper trade tools, unlimited seats, or project billing.

The best Housecall Pro alternatives line up with the reason you are shopping. Jobber is the closest like-for-like option with a lower entry price. Service Fusion includes unlimited users. ServiceTitan and FieldEdge go deeper for multi-truck HVAC, plumbing, and electrical shops, on quote-only pricing. Kickserv is a budget option. And for trade contractors whose work is turning into projects, Knowify handles AIA billing. All figures come from vendor pricing pages checked in October 2026.

Who Housecall Pro fits

Housecall Pro is aimed at residential home service businesses. Even its Basic plan includes online booking, scheduling and dispatch, estimates, invoices, payments with consumer financing, a price book, review management, and job costing. Essentials adds routes, flat-rate pricing, checklist automations, photo reports, employee GPS, commissions, and QuickBooks Online sync. Max adds a sales proposal tool, recurring service plans, route optimization, open API access, and a dedicated onboarding specialist.

Pricing is published. On annual billing, Basic is $59 a month for 1 user, Essentials $149 for 5 users, and Max $299 for 8 users; monthly billing is $79, $189, and $329. Max lists extra users at $35 a month. For a two-van plumbing shop, that is a clear, predictable bill, and a lot of tool for the money.

Why contractors look for Housecall Pro alternatives

  • The jump between tiers. Basic includes 1 user and the pricing page lists an extra-user rate only on Max, so a second user may mean moving to Essentials, $90 more a month on annual billing. Confirm with Housecall Pro.
  • Add-ons without listed prices. Payroll, accounting, voice, campaigns, pipeline, websites, and dashcams are listed as add-ons, with no prices shown on the pricing page.
  • Deeper trade operations. Larger HVAC shops may want call center tools, advanced reporting, and configurable payroll.
  • Project work. A contractor doing new construction or tenant improvements needs progress billing, retainage, and change orders.

None of that makes Housecall Pro a bad pick. Plenty of shops should stay. The reasons to move are specific: you are paying for seats you do not need, you are paying separately for add-ons another vendor bundles, or the work itself has changed. A residential plumber who lands a 40-unit apartment rough-in with a GC, monthly pay apps, and 10 percent held back has a different billing problem than a service call, and no amount of route optimization fixes it. Know which of those reasons applies before you book demos, or every demo will look good.

7 Housecall Pro alternatives and who each fits

How to choose

Price your actual headcount on each tool. Say an HVAC company has 9 techs, a dispatcher, and an office manager, 11 users in all. On Housecall Pro Max that is $299 for 8 users plus 3 at $35, or $404 a month on annual billing. On Service Fusion Pro it is $533 with unlimited users and progress billing included. On Jobber Plus, the 10-user tier is $449 and the 15-user tier $529 on annual billing, so 11 users lands at $478 (10 users plus one extra at $29) to $529. Then add the add-ons you will really use, and ask ServiceTitan and FieldEdge to quote the same 9 techs.

  1. List the add-ons you would need on each platform (payroll, phones, marketing) and get prices in writing.
  2. Check payment processing rates, since they often cost more than the subscription.
  3. Have your busiest tech run a real call in the trial.
  4. Export customers, equipment records, and job history from Housecall Pro before canceling.
